Itchin' for a New Kitchen

(Don't judging me for the title.  Rhyming is fun!).

I adore my house.  It's very ranchy, but also very homie.  We have a great layout, plenty of space to entertain and hang out, have a great view, and are perfectly positioned in case of a zombie apocalypse.  However, there is one room that is starting to wear on me.

Namely, my kitchen.

Dun Dun DUN

The layout is fine.  The U-Shape counters have plenty of work space (when my husband doesn't try to claim it with his gym bag) and it's nice and spacious compared to the last house we lived in.  However, my oven was literally patented in 1966, it's got an electric range, and the blue linoleum and the awful white counters make me want to die a little.  It's also worth noting that when MJ "fixed" our refrigerator, he ended up tearing a 3 foot hole in said linoleum revealing a stunning yellow linoleum that was (once again) straight out of 1966. And let me tell you, it's just not attractive.

The good news is that MJ has been on a home renovation kick.  He single-handedly repaired the dry wall in our dining room, and is looking for a new project.  Cooking is my therapy and therefore the kitchen is the room I probably spend the most time in, so he agreed it was next to be renovated.  So, the saving/cost analysis begins!

On our list:

A Viking oven/range.  I'll take them together or separate, I really don't care.  I know that other companies make great appliances, but there's something so beautiful about a Viking that makes me just want one.  MJ agrees.  Fortunately, there are great deals to be had!

A Backsplash.  The bare white wall just isn't doing it for me anymore.

A new sink.  I need this one.  Like whoa.

Floors that make me not want to kill myself.

Counters! And repainting the cabinets!  And I also need that light fixture.  The floor in this picture isn't really my style, but I'll take everything else.

So yes, as you can see, we have quite a project on our hands.  Our first goal is to get new appliances (Ebay has some great deals on a Viking!).  Baby steps, as Michael would say.
